The Medical Support Team of Urban Shield has evolved, each year surpassing the performance benchmarks of the prior year.
This continual improvement has developed into a program remarkably similar to the standards outlined in the “Tactical Medicine Guidelines for Operational Programs and Standardized Training 2009”. The manual, jointly approved by California POST (Police Officer Standards and Training) and EMSA (Emergency Medical Services Agency), defines Tactical Medicine as “the delivery of medical services for law enforcement operations.” It further states that the primary goal of tactical medicine is to support and assist a tactical team in accomplishing its mission during a deployment or response to a critical incident. This goal has been the driving force behind the Medical Branch of Urban Shield, with the motto of the Medical Support Team being “Keep ‘Em In The Game.”
